The numbers tell a powerful story of community commitment and conservation impact across the Whakatipu in 2025.
This financial year (2024-2025), we created our first comprehensive Impact Report to showcase all the amazing mahi happening across the Whakatipu. With assistance from Jennifer Smart of Secret Identity, we’ve captured not just the statistics, but the stories behind them. This report is a celebration of what we’ve achieved together!
Our network of 250 active trappers, organised into 70 trapping groups, carried out an incredible 42,117 trap checks across more than 4,000 traps – representing over 7,000 hours of volunteer effort. This dedication resulted in 14,125 pests removed from our environment between 1 January and 30 December 2025, protecting our native wildlife every single day of the year.
But conservation is about more than just numbers of pests caught – it’s about growing a community of people who care. This year we trained 80 new trapping volunteers, engaged 170 school students in hands-on conservation projects, welcomed 75 people to our community birding events, and ran workshops for 63 participants eager to develop their conservation skills. Our end-of-year Trappernatter celebration brought together 50 volunteers to recognise the collective achievements we’ve made possible.

Thank you to every single person who contributed to these remarkable numbers in 2025. Here’s to an even bigger impact in 2026!
